Death, life, family, domestic abuse–Heavy Weather explores all these themes in a memorable and compelling narrative. When Annie Mac’s life explodes like a storm at sea, she is helpless to fight back. Left for dead, her two children targeted by her abuser, her life appears to be over. The people who help her show her how to weather a storm that she cannot control.
It takes a town to save a child. That town is Beaufort, North Carolina.
Annie Mac’s estranged husband vows that nothing will stop him from getting his baby girl. Not Annie Mac and certainly not that boy of hers.
Only four blocks away, Hannah Morgan lives in comfort with her husband and dog, making pottery and waiting for her best friend to come home. When she discovers the two children cowering in the bushes and their mama left for dead, it doesn’t take her long to set her coterie of do-gooders to some extra-strength do-gooding. Add in Clay, a lonely police lieutenant yanked out of his comfort zone and into the heart of this small family, and who knows what will happen?
From the author of Becalmed comes this latest tale of the Carolina coast, introducing some new characters to love–and to loathe.
Normandie Fischer studied sculpture in Italy before receiving a BA, summa cum laude with special honors in English. Her books, which have garnered numerous awards, include her Carolina Coast stories: Becalmed, Heavy Weather, Twilight Christmas, and Sailing out of Darkness. From Fire into Fire and Two from Isaac’s House—a Romantic Times Top Pick—form the beginning of her Isaac’s House series. A lifelong sailor, Normandie and her husband spent a number of years on board their 50-foot ketch, Sea Venture, in the Sea of Cortez, Mexico, sailing home to North Carolina in 2011 to take care of her mother. They have four children, two grandchildren, and an aussiedoodle named Rhion.
Having graduated with a Masters Degree in Fine Arts in Creative Writing, Laura has an intrinsic appreciation of the mechanisms and techniques that comprise the art of the tale. She’s able to analyze the underlying moods and currents of a book and bring these into her interpretation of the author’s work. She believes her place as narrator is to be the facilitator for all the nuances of the spoken word and the written word between the author and the listener. Her naturally clear and fresh voice as narrator contributes that extra dimension of enjoyment.
Laura works full time as a professional narrator and voice-over artist. She has narrated titles for Tantor Media, Audible Studios, Dreamscape Media, Insatiable Press and Cherry Hill Publishing.
She enjoys a quiet lifestyle in the Pacific Northwest with her loving husband and aged beagle, Dottie. Her days are filled with narrating, yoga, hiking and, of course, always reading.
This audiobook shocked me from the first chapter. It took me straight in the middle of the action and I was so surprised, I even thought I didn’t start from the beginning. I loved every second of it. I loved all the problems that the author has included in the story and I also loved the narration!
Each character has something to fight for. And they do it in their own manner – some do it the right way, fir the right reasons, others do it the wrong way, but also for the right reasons. Some characters are to blame, some are worthy of respect. This book has it all! There is so much emotion in each chapter that is coming hard for me to make a coherent review, especially since I’ve just finished it.
Two children can rattle so many people. Our main characters will come to understand that they have to treat them with extra care, since they were part of an abusive environment. Hannah’s husband will have to adapt on sharing his wife’s attention. Annie must learn to fight for her kids. The entire town will be united around the boy and the girl, doing their best to keep them safe. Roy, the girl’s father, is a character very (and I mean VERY) worthy of hate. But somewhere deep inside, he has a soft spot. He has another woman who he claims to love, he has his daughter and he seems to have some twisted form of paternal feelings. I am not trying to understand him of anything, just to pint out the complex way in which he, as well as the other characters, was built.
Themes. Oh my! There are a lot of those, and I think the blurb summarize them very well. These are difficult subjects and probably one of the most important messages this book carries is that we should not pretend abuse does not exist. Especially if there is a child involved. I appreciate this book from so many points and I am so happy I have the privilege of writing a few words.
The narration was fabulous as well. I could feel the emotions in Laura Jennings’ voice. I could feel the insecurities, the fears and the affection. Her calm and easy interpretation is a plus!
Suffice to say this is a audiobook not to miss! There are books one loves, and there are books one feels compelled to thank the author and narrator for sharing them. So thank you! I’ve said it all.

She took her clothes off. Slowly. He threw them into the shower. She wouldn’t wear them again. He could throw them away.
She stood in her bra and panties before him. “You should leave.”
“I’m not leaving you alone.”
“But?”
“I’m not leaving.” His eyes had turned dark.
If she was honest with herself, though, she didn’t want him to go. She undid the clasp of her bra and dropped it to the floor. He averted his eyes, but she knew he could sense every movement she made by the way he gripped the sink. She reached for the waistband of her pants and pulled them down.
“Can you get in the shower alright?”
“Yes, I can.”
He turned the water on when she got in. Warmth washed away the filth of what could have killed her. She scrubbed her skin while tears fell. She slathered herself in the soap that he handed her. She’d nearly died. She’d really, really come close to dying.
Oh God. Her mum. Owen. Guilt washed over her as she cried and cried. The entire time Callum stood outside the shower. He no longer averted his eyes. He watched as she sobbed and sobbed. She didn’t want him to look away. She wanted him to watch. He needed to be close. She wished he could be in the shower with her; inside her. He could take away the pain of her life but she couldn’t. She had to be strong.
When she finally got out of the shower, he wrapped a towel around her and rubbed her until she was dry.
“I don’t have a change of clothes for you. But.” He took off his jacket, tie, waistcoat and shirt. “Take my shirt, it will cover you. My coat will keep you warm.” He put the waistcoat back on.
“You don’t have a girdle.” She wasn’t sure where those words had come from. All she knew was that she had looked at his muscular torso and that was what had popped into her mind. She let out a little giggle.
He took a step closer to her and wrapped the shirt around her. She dropped the towel to the floor, and he did the buttons up. He stopped after a few and rested his forehead against hers. “I’m so sorry. I’ve never hated having to do anything as much as I hated putting you in that position. It was the only thing we could think of. Signore Corvi had hidden things too well.”
“It’s ok. Everything worked out.”
“Mr North will be very pleased with you.” Callum hesitated on the words.
“And with you.”
He brought his lips down, so they hovered just above hers. “Marie, may I kiss you?”
She swallowed. “Yes. Yes, please. Kiss me.”

Hey guys,
I have not been keeping up with my tours lately, mostly because my job kept me busy (or at least made me tired enough to not be able to read as much as I would). So for the next period, I’ll not be involved in as many blog tours as I would like, mostly because in the last two weeks I was not able to keep my appointments.
So that being said, I apologize to my partners for not being able to maintain the schedule.
I have received a lot of ARCs from authors and as I was mentioning in another post, they will have priority. Also, my focus will be Romance (and all Romance related) and YA – I feel it’s easier for me to choose a Romance or YA book in a pile of titles. I noticed as well that it’s easier for me to listen to books that are out of my comfort zone than reading them. So I have some audiobook tours that I will be involved in which cover different genres.
I will come back with my April TBR these days. That’s it for now, enjoy Sunday and happy reading J

Chapter One
Morgana
I hated to admit it, but I was a sucker for a good psychopath. The sinister, mischievous smile always seemed to get me. It didn’t help that some of my own screws got knocked loose awhile ago.
But I was a good person once.
Being a good person ruined my life.
I waited too late in the day to go for my run, but sitting in the house had made me restless. The knife I had hidden underneath the bathroom sink kept whispering for me to take it out. If I didn’t leave, I’d end up playing in a puddle of my blood, getting higher than a kite.
So, there I was, jogging down the barren road, Lana Del Rey blasting through my earbuds. The sun was obscuring my vision, but even partially blinded I could see the dog in the middle of the street. And the car that was approaching, speeding up instead of slowing down.
My moral obligation had me sprinting to scoop the brown and white bundle into my arms. Tires screeched, I screamed, and the car swerved around me. If my bladder had been full, I would’ve pissed my pants.
I pulled the earphones out in time to hear a sleuth of expletives come from inside the large muscle car. The driver had stopped over on the side of the road; his once shiny vehicle now covered in dust. The smell of burnt rubber lingered in the humid air.
Casting a nervous glance back at the classic car, I assessed the dog in my arms and began walking up the street on shaky legs. Away from the angry driver.
The engine revved and tires spun. With a speed that had dust particles rising back into the air, the car zipped passed me just so the driver could cut me off. I had a vague idea of who the driver was.
“What the fuck are you doing?” A man opened the driver door and began to get out. My mind flashed with instant recognition. He had sunglasses on, and I could still feel his eyes burning holes into me.
“You were going to hit him.” I adjusted the small dog in my arms, feeling his wiry fur scratch against my bare skin.
“So you risked your life for a stupid animal?”
“Don’t call him stupid! If you had been driving like a normal person, instead of trying to go fast like a typical douche bag with a sports car, you would have seen him.”
“I wouldn’t have changed course,” he shrugged.
“Then you’re a douche bag and an asshole. Congratulations.” I glared at him and walked passed the trunk, feeling his eyes follow me.
“Morgana,” said a deep voice with an intoxicating amount of sultriness. The amusement in his tone now that he realized who I was irritated me.
“Fucking awesome,” I muttered, turning to face him. Of all people to come in contact with on a barren country road, I run into, Julian Andreou.
The sunglasses on his face may have prevented me from seeing his eyes. But they didn’t hide his prominent jawline, his slight stubble, or the dark eyebrow he had raised at me.
“I was distracted.” He gave me a smile that had deep dimples appearing on his cheeks. Like water on a flame, my immediate anger doused.
“No apology for almost killing me?” He towered above my height of five-four, leaving me no choice but to frown up at him. My reflection looked back at me in his Aviators. God, I looked a hot mess. Strands of baylage brunette hair had escaped my fishtail braid, and a tiny bit of perspiration coated my bronze skin.
He reached up and removed his sunglasses, allowing the full intensity of his gaze to meet mine. His green hues were smiling, causing my stomach to dip for an entirely different reason.
Julian was a gorgeous, immaculately groomed man, and I knew he was indubitably aware of his attractiveness. His ego didn’t need any more strokes, so I always chose to act indifferent. This, in my opinion, is what made him so ‘interested’ in me.
That weird thing people do where one pulls away, so the other follows. That’s what this had to be. He was a patient wolf who wore a suit, and I was the little lamb he wanted to devour.
“I was distracted by staring at you. Something I’ve been doing for close to a year now.” He enunciated each word slowly. As if I could ever forget someone like him, kept trying to ask me out.
He dragged his burning gaze up and down my body. Cognizant I was only wearing a sports bra and tiny yoga shorts; the dog became my shield against his ogling.
“Goodbye, Julian.”
Shaking my head, I turned on my heel and continued walking. Seconds later, a door slammed shut, and he pulled off. I couldn’t hide my amused smile when his car pulled up beside me, moving forward at a snail’s pace.
“Get in the car, Morgan. I’ll take you home,” his smooth baritone voice softly called out to me.
The rumors about his family swirled around in my head. My cheeks heated in shame when I realized what I was doing. Judging him. Just like everyone in town did me.
The people who knew the least about you always had the most to say. In Riverview, a girl giving a boy a small kiss on the cheek spun into a story about her giving blowjobs in the church.
It was a quaint town, which wasn’t necessarily a bad thing unless you were someone like me. A girl that had been smacked with a crazy label.
Riverview gossip spread faster than wildfires. They took a truth, twisted it, and ran wild with lies. When someone found out a tidbit of information about me, I was suddenly a weird recluse that belonged in a freak show.
“Come on, Morgana. I only want to take you home.” His words were saturated with double meaning. I glanced over expecting to see his cocky signature smirk, but all he gave me was a genial smile.
I shouldn’t have considered his offer, but I did. My house was a good thirty minutes away. Satan had lit Hellfires on earth; the heat was kicking my ass, and the dog in my arms felt like he’d been put in an oven.
“Okay,” I omitted, slanting my eyes down to the blacktop and walking around his car. The dog turned its head but didn’t do much else.
Julian climbed out and quickly came around to open the passenger door for me. Once I was settled into the cool leather seat, he went back to the driver side.
Something in my head was telling me this was a terrible idea.
Natalie Bennett has always been an avid fan of all things dark and twisted, so it only made sense for her to write what she loves. She brings to life unapologetic antiheroes you love to hate and strong heroines who refuse to be broken.
Natalie writes Dark Paranormal & Dark Erotica with romantic elements. She doesn’t censor her writing and let’s her stories tell themselves. If you pick up one of her books expecting a typical HEA, you won’t find one.
I extended my hand and offered a one-sided smile. I almost gave her my real name, but caught myself at the last second. “Liam Hughes. Pleased to meet you.”
She glanced down at my hand, then grasped it. Hers was cool, small, but her powerful grip took me by surprise. I suppressed a wince of pain.
“Charlotte Moreno.”
“Charlotte,” I repeated, disentangling my hand. I subtly flexed my fingers. “Lovely name for a lovely woman.”
She tilted her head. “Everyone calls me Chase.”
I breathed in the delicious scent of her perfume, and the delicate scent of her hair. Both made me light-headed. “Are you the chaser or the chasee?” Smooth, Harper.
My lame joke only brought on another enigmatic smile, her eyes glittering. “Depends on if I’m in the mood to be the prey or the predator.”

They barely made it through front door, especially since Dominic almost broke through it when the key didn’t make it into the lock on the first try. Once inside, Kate practically pulled him onto the floor of the long entryway. It felt like she was in a scene from a movie. They fumbled as they moved, insisting that they didn’t lose grip of each other. Dominic kicked the door closed behind them and, dropping to his knees, lifted her sundress up to reveal her stomach. Everything had been frantic and thrilling, but for a short moment, he stopped and sweetly kissed her hips and belly button. He glanced up at Kate and gave her that deadly smirk. Full of life again, he ripped the dress over her head. Next, she was undressing him as they found their way to the first piece of furniture that would support them- a white stone sofa table that ran along the back of the couch in the middle of the room. He lifted her up onto the table, and the shock of the cold against her butt and thighs startled her into a laugh.
Again, she found her hands running along the tattoos of his artwork splashed across his muscular chest. She leaned over and kissed along the swirls of paint. She loved his work. Seeing and touching it in real-life on the artist himself…it was an indescribable feeling. She wanted him inside of her now. She laid back on the table while her head rested on the back cushions of the couch. Dominic knew just what to do to take her over the edge.
With each thrust, she moved further back on the table. Finally, she leaned her head back and saw the comfort of the huge white couch behind her. She reached up and grabbed his shoulders. He knew what she wanted. They maneuvered over the table together and landed safely on the couch, which was deep enough to comfortably hold the two of them.
Dominic climbed on top of her. He had had other women on this same couch over the years, but nothing compared to this moment with Kate. No other woman in his past had ever excited him this way. He reached through her pile of hair and found the back of her head, lifting it up to meet his so he could take her mouth again. She let out a sweet moan in response.
Dominic had always loved it hard and fast, and now was fighting to keep himself in check. Earlier that morning, he had been just barely awake, and she was so perfectly sweet. Their first time felt more like some kind of dream. This time, he wanted to savor the moment with her. He didn’t want it to feel like a random fuck with a woman he had picked up. Kate was too special for that. He slowed his pace. She spread her legs wider to take him in deeper. With that one simple move, his eyes rolled back inside his head, and he lost any sense of control he thought he had obtained.

“Have you set the rat poison?” I asked Ayuba, when he was filling my glass with water. And as if on cue, the Power Holding Company of Nigeria struck. We were all enveloped in darkness.
“Do sit still, everyone,” Ayuba cautioned. “I will get the generator working now.”
I heard him open the main door and go out. Someone was still walking around the dining area, in the dark. There was the harsh scraping sound of a chair moving across the terrazzo floor surface and the person sat down finally.
Ayuba and the generator had a good understanding. They had known each other for years. It purred and came to life. Soon enough, it was roaring like a wounded lion and the lights came back on. I looked around at everyone, they were all at their tables as calm as you please. I wondered which one of them had been moving about in the dark and why.
“I was asking you about the rat poison, Ayuba,” I said when he came back.
“It’s there on …” began Ayuba pointing to a shelf. But now his mouth was agape in surprise and he couldn’t seem to continue. His hand hung in space, still pointing at the shelf, as if held by a spell.
“What is it?” I asked him.
“The bottle of rat poison was on that shelf just before the lights went out, but it is no longer there now,” he explained, standing up to see better.
“Maybe someone accidentally knocked it over, when it was dark,” I suggested. We left the dining area and searched around the shelf and the bar area, but it was a waste of time.
“You’re sure it was here?” I asked.
“Yes, I saw it just before the lights went out.”
That was when Wahimda screamed.
“Ah! My tummy!” she shrieked, clutching at her stomach.
“What is it?” I asked going over to her. She was already on the floor.
She kept screaming, “My tummy! My tummy!”
Tonye almost jumped out of his skin. His eyes grew as wide as saucers. I was also startled by the piercing scream.
“Is she in labour?” Tonye asked no one in particular. His head seemed larger than usual.
“Maybe she had an abortion?” he suggested.
“Oh, shut up, Tonye!” I snapped. Then, I went on my knees and tried to calm Wahimda. What was the matter with her?
“The hot chocolate! The hot chocolate!” said Wahimda. “Ah! The hot chocolate!” There were beads of perspiration and signs of agony on her face.
“The hot chocolate?” repeated Amina incredulously. “How do you mean?”
But Wahimda groaned louder.
“She had better answer right now,” said Tonye, impatiently.
“Wahimda,” I called, holding up her head and wiping off some of the perspiration with my handkerchief. “What is the matter?”
“The hot chocolate. It tasted funny like insecticide,” she said weakly, her eyes became glazed and she seemed to have difficulty keeping them open. “It tasted funny …” her voice trailed off as if she hadn’t the strength to continue.
“Oh, I see now,” said Tonye nodding his head sagely, as if everything was now crystal clear. He grinned at everyone with a moronic smile on his face. He reminded me of a cow having a good time in a grass field.
“But was it not normal chocolate?” asked Willie.
“It was,” Amina answered, looking bewildered.
“The rat poison!” said Ayuba in a sudden fit of inspiration.
“What happened to rat cousin?” asked Tonye with a blank expression on his face.
“The rat poison must have somehow found its way into the chocolate,’ explained a distraught Ayuba.
“It is not possible!” said Amina, with an emphatic shake of her head. “The bottle was never near where I made the hot chocolate. It was on that shelf until the lights went off.”
“Let’s get this young lady to the hospital,” said John.
We called for help from the policemen. They assisted in getting Wahimda into one of their police vans.
“Please, hurry!” Amina called out, as they went to the nearest hospital.
I wondered what had happened. Had Amina accidentally or deliberately put rat poison in Wahimda’s hot chocolate? But why would she want to hurt her husband’s cousin? Had someone else done so under the cover of darkness? Who moved when the lights went off? Had the young lady deliberately poisoned herself? But she was not the suicidal type! Or was she?
The other guests huddled and were asking themselves questions along similar lines. But where was the bottle of rat poison now? Empty or not, where was it?
I called out to Tonye, “Help me look around for the bottle of rat poison. Don’t touch it if you see it. Just show it to me.”
We began searching for it. Unfortunately, Tonye was hell-bent on following me around and searching in the very places where I put my hands to search. At a point, we were both under the same table. I had no idea he would try to get under the same table, as I was. We ended up knocking our heads together. Stars exploded before my eyes, as soon as my head struck his rocky head. I was pissed, to say the least. The others asked what we were looking for, when they saw me rubbing my head in pain. I stared at Tonye with deadly intent; he had the nerve to watch me in surprise, as if wondering what the matter was with me! I told them what we were looking for, then tried to get up, forgetting that I was still under the table. This time, when my head struck the table, I saw stars, comets and asteroids colliding and exploding.
