Bakery
owner Willow Dalton’s friendship with Zane Walker has always been a bit
complicated. Now a scrumptiously hot A-list actor, Zane’s always had a
reputation as player. He’s arrogant, and he’s definitely not boyfriend
material. Sure, he did Willow a favor by agreeing to take her virginity before
college, but is that reason enough to go along with a fake engagement a decade
later—even if it comes with a real diamond ring?

Zane should
have known better. Nothing involving Willow has ever been easy. Still, he knows
her better than anyone, and becoming America’s hottest new leading man means
cleaning up his reputation. An “engagement” to curvy, sass-mouthed Willow is
the perfect PR move . . . provided no one gets hurt.

Now Zane
and Willow’s little white lie has turned into an irresistible recipe for sweet
temptation. And soon no one will be able to tell the difference between their
fake engagement or the real thing—including them.

My Review:

I literary jumped at the opportunity to read a book by Melissa Foster that would be the first in a series. I have read some others by her, but I always got involved in the second or last book. It’s ok, just that I hadn’t had that feeling of knowing everything there is to know about the characters, be those main or not. So here I am, reviewing the first book of the “Sugar Lake” series.

Zane and Willow come together by means of a lie. Zane is back collecting on a favor he did for Willow in college, when she asked him to take her virginity. And how could he refuse her? She was his best friend’s sister, a pretty hot sister I might add. Now he’s back asking her a favor in return. Zane has become this big actor, hunting for a role in a romantic comedy and looking to clean up his reputation. The best way to do that is to show the media he is a serious guy, involved in a serious relationship, with a nice girl from a small town. But what to do when the lie becomes truth?

Willow has trusted Zane even since college, when she decided he was the one to offer her the lovely memories of the first night with a boy. Their invisible bond has always been there since that time and once they are united again, sparks become full flames. Still, when Zane realizes she is the one for him, he must fight for her trust with all his weapons. There are issues no be solved between them, she is not willing to leave her bakery, he has a successful career in Los Angeles. The way they connect, their interaction, this is what kept me reading this book until the end.

This was a quick read for me. I didn’t even know when time flew by. I was right there with the characters, I suffered with them and felt the butterflies again. I am giving this book 5 stars with all the love of reading! And this is my favorite, out of all of Melissa Foster’s series. I think the writing for this one is really amazing! Please give it a go if you are a Romance addict like me! Enjoy J

My Review:

This book had me from the very first page. I loved the writing so much! It was fun, crazy at times and it’s a story of coming together, building a relationship. It’s great for a summer read, it’s great if you are a romantic or a dreamer, it’s just great anyway!

Let me start by mentioning that it’s my first book in the series (quite unhappy for that) and while I had no problem understanding the story, it was a little bit difficult to get to know all the previous couples and the connections between them. This was the only part were I struggled a little.

Our main characters meet while both are taking some time away from their jobs. Somehow, most of the romance happens when you take time away from work J Jamie is a self-made billionaire, looking from some time away from his company and wanting to spend more time with family and friends. Jessica is a musician, looking to decide if this is really what she wants to do in life. If the first always had time for business, never for family, the second always worked to fulfill their expectations. But summer is all about letting go and falling in love J

They slowly build a relationship that will soon become more than they expected. But what to do when reality knocks on your door? Will you risk anything for something that may or may not be true? This is what our characters will have to decide. Their faith and trust in their feelings will be put to trials.

As I was mentioning, I was grabbed from the very first pages. The opening scene, were Jamie and Jessica meet is a laugh-out-loud and the attraction between them is pretty much obvious. We have here an amazing writer! But you already Knew that…

All in all, 5 stars and an encouragement to read the book, and the series (which is something I have to do as well! ). Jump in with your comments and thoughts!

Book Review: Check My Heart

About the book:check my heart

Title: Check My Heart

Author: Christi Barth

Published: July 17th 2017

Source: ARC received from Tasty Book Tours, in exchange for a review

Format: e-copy

Blurb:

The death of his little brother turned Kurt Lundquist’s world upside down. He channeled his grief into skating his heart out–and ultimately leading his hockey team to win the championship. Now, all he wants to do is throw a party with the Cup in his brother’s honor. He’s got no clue where to start…until he runs into the gorgeous hospice nurse who took such great care of Jasper. She’s waaay off limits, but he’s desperate, and hires her to help him.

Lisette Broussard’s heart broke a little more every time a patient died. Losing the brave brother of a hockey star was the last straw. Learning a new specialty was supposed to change her life for the better, but it used up her savings. Then the slam dunk job with the New Orleans championship hockey team mysteriously disappears. So she jumps at Kurt’s offer of a job, no matter how temporary. No matter how…dangerous, given how much she’s always crushed on him. No matter how risky it is to fall for Kurt, since he’ll always associate her with the grief of losing his brother.

But the more time they spend together, the deeper they both fall. Kurt’s heart begins to thaw…and then heat. Lisette can’t resist him, and throws caution to the wind. She’ll take whatever time he gives her. Can they move beyond the pain of the past and focus on a future together?

My Review:

„Check My Heart” by Christi Barth is a very intense story in which the main characters are brought together by the very thing that keeps them apart. It is a very quick read and for me it was perfect for a summer evening.

Kurt Lundquist is still mourning the loss of his brother, doing his best to accomplish his desires, even after his passing. He never imagined meeting Lisette Broussard again. She as well is followed by little Jasper’s death. This determines her to switch her career from hospice nurse. So both our main characters are looking for a new beginning, Kurt thinking of giving up hockey as well.

I loved the attraction between them, though I was not quite comfortable with the way things got back to normal after a hot moment. Their relationship starts with a lot of sexual tension. They still hold respect for Jasper’s death and to them, this is an obstacle that is hard to overcome, in their opinion. But this reason is exactly what brings them together, since Kurt hires Lisette to help him plan a party for Jasper’s team mates from his school’s hockey team, as was his wish.

The writing is very easy and the emotions are well expressed. The sadness, the intensity of their attraction, but as well the willingness to start over are well presented. The plot is not rushed at all and everything evolves at a normal pace.

Suffice to say that I quite enjoyed this book and the main characters. This is a clean romance, very suitable for a summer evening, while dreaming of your own “special someone” J I love Christi Barth’s writing and I do hope I’ll read more books by her. Till the next one, 4 stars go to “Check My Heart”

Book Review: Carson

She needs to move forward with her life,
but how can she when Carson still owns her heart?
CARSON
Bad Boys After Dark #3
Melissa Foster
Releasing July 11, 2017
World Literary Press

Second chances really do exist…

As the founder of a multimillion-dollar international security business, Carson Bad exposes secrets for a living. He knows better than to forge relationships built on them. But for years he did just that with his best friend, and secret lover, Tawny Bishop. She brought a sense of calm and understanding to his life–in and out of the bedroom. Until one fateful night when a knock at the door changed everything.

Tawny is no longer a naive college student. She’s a sought-after perfumer living in Paris. She has plenty of resources at her fingertips, and lots of lonely nights to think about the only man she’s ever loved–the one she ran away from all those years ago. She needs to move forward with her life, but how can she when Carson still owns her heart?

Maybe showing up in the middle of the night unannounced isn’t the best route to unraveling the past and figuring out her future, but Tawny has played it safe for ten long years, and it’s only made her long for the man she never should have walked away from. Now she’s back in Carson’s life, and he’s determined not to make the same mistake twice. If only he knew what that mistake was…

My Review:

As always, Melissa Foster has her way with words! She adds something magical, that brings out the emotions, not only in her characters, but in us readers. I cannot get enough of her writing!

This is my first book from the series, but the book can be easily read as a standalone. There is no connection (or only minimal) to the other stories, so no need to read the first ones. However, if you are a fan of Melissa’s writing, just go right in J (like I will do, for sure!). So Carson and Tawny have this connection that was born years ago, when they started sharing Sunday nights. Immature and maybe unsure about each other’s feelings, they stop pursuing it. However, both know for sure that maybe the only real moments they had were when they were together, the only moments where comfort set in.  What would possibly have gone wrong to make them stop?

Reading Carson’s story, I have a lot of conflicting feelings. As I mentioned, the writing is beautiful so no need to insist on praising it. But the plot is too much centered on the hot scenes between the main characters and does not have this solid build. I would have expected a deeper conflict between the two, or inside their hearts. Also, most of the part (if not completely), Carson is to be blamed or he takes the fault. But in reality, I believe things could have been settled in a much simpler way.

Well, taking into account I did feel all these emotions and the abundance of feelings the main characters shared, especially for the remarkable way in which the book is put in words, I am going with a 4 stars (3.5 actually).

My Review:

I am no stranger to Reily Garrett and I have mentioned this in so many of my other reviews. I was lucky to be first approached by this amazing author to review some of her other titles and now I am even luckier to be part of a blog tour promoting her new series. As other books by her, “Digital Velocity” is a great combination between passion and mystery. She has a way of building our suspense and keeping us fully emerged in her story!

So in book 1 of “McAllister Justice” Series, we meet detective Ethan McAllister and Lexi Donovan. While he has a prolific career and has managed it all on his own, Lexi has had to deal with street life and now all she wants is to live in the shadows. Their interaction starts anonymously, when Lexi starts sending him tips of criminal activity. But when her info results in Ethan getting shot and Lexi’s protector dead, things kind of get turned upside down. She will have to learn to trust other people, and Ethan will have to face feelings he was never ready for.

As I was mentioning, what I mostly like about Reily’s writing is this way of building the story around the action and the characters at the same time. I mean the mystery or the plot related action evolves in the same manner as the romance between the main characters. They just move hand in hand. As the action becomes more intense, the characters become more engrossed in each other. You don’t go all the way into finding out who the killer is only to be reminded in the end that “hey, there was something going on between these two”.

One other aspect that I noticed specifically tied to “Digital Velocity” is that the mystery surrounding Lexi is kept during most part of the narration. We get to understand what Ethan feels about her, in all the ways he seems attracted to her, but we don’t have such insight on Lexi. She is a mystery as well, one that will unfold gradually as well.

Suffice to say that I liked the story very much. There is no news in that. I said it so many times, I am a fan of Reily Garrett and I cannot get enough of her books! I am so excited to read what else is in store of the McAllisters! In the meantime, have fun reading “Digital Velocity” J

Reily is a
West Coast girl transplanted to the opposite shore. When she’s not working with
her dogs, you can find her curled up with a book or writing her next story.
Past employment as an ICU nurse, private investigator, and work in the military
police has given her countless experiences in a host of different environments
to add a real world feel to her fiction.

Over time,
and several careers, many incidents have flavored the plots of her stories.
Man’s cruelty and ingenuity for torment and torture is boundless, not contained
by an infinite imagination. Witnessing the after-effects of a teenager mugged
at knifepoint for a pair of tennis shoes, or an elderly woman stabbed
repeatedly with a screwdriver for no apparent reason, left an indelible
impression that will forever haunt her subconscious. In counterpoint, she has
observed a woman stop her vehicle in severe, snowy weather to offer her own
winter coat to a stranger, a teenager wearing a threadbare hoodie. Life’s
diversities are endless.

Though her
kids are her life, writing is Reily’s life after. The one enjoyed after the
kids are in bed or after they’re in school and the house is quiet. This is the
time she kicks back with laptop and lapdog to give her imagination free rein.

In reading,
take pleasure in a mental pause as you root for your favorite hero/heroine and
bask in their accomplishments, then share your opinions of them over a coffee
with your best friend (even if he’s four-legged). Life is short. Cherish your
time.

My Review:

I am in love with this book! It was crazy, all the way ! This is my first book by Kate Canterbary and I can tell you it will not be my last. Her writing is absolutely fantastic! She has that thing that it’s needed to give true meaning to words and fill with emotions every line. I was so captured by how well she expressed each character’s feelings that I managed to finish this book in one day. I just could not stop!

This was also my first encounter with the series, but I did not feel that I’ve missed some parts of the story. Riley is so complex and he has it all: The looks, the wits, the charm, the fun, the passion. With his tumultuous past, he still managed to make something in life. He has found someone who matches his personality completely. When I was introduced to our heroine, I had my doubts. She seemed weird. But she was indeed an explosion of traits that stand next to Riley’s.

The connection they have, the dialogue between them, all evolves in such a beautiful manner. They explore each other, they push each other’s limits until will realize they are more alike than they could ever imagine. The author has created an amazing pair! This couple is one of my favorites indeed!

I am really sorry I was so late introduced to this series. I would have wanted to read it earlier in my book blogging activity. But guys, if you like this kind of stories, this book is amazing! And I heard amazing things about the other couples Kate Canterbary has created. 5 full stars, obviously!

That’s it for now, read and enjoy J

Kate Canterbary doesn’t have it all figured out, but this is what she knows for sure: spicy-ass salsa and tequila solve most problems, living on the ocean–Pacific or Atlantic–is the closest place to perfection, and writing smart, smutty stories is a better than any amount of chocolate. She started out reporting for an indie arts and entertainment newspaper back when people still read newspapers, and she has been writing and surreptitiously interviewing people—be careful sitting down next to her on an airplane—ever since. While you were sleeping…

With her brother Thomas injured on the battlefront in
the Colonies, orphaned Cecilia Harcourt has two unbearable choices: move in
with a maiden aunt or marry a scheming cousin. Instead, she chooses option
three and travels across the Atlantic, determined to nurse her brother back to
health. But after a week of searching, she finds not her brother but his best
friend, the handsome officer Edward Rokesby. He’s unconscious and in desperate
need of her care, and Cecilia vows that she will save this soldier’s life, even
if staying by his side means telling one little lie…

I told everyone I was your wife
When Edward comes to, he’s more than a little confused.
The blow to his head knocked out six months of his memory, but surely he would
recall getting married. He knows who Cecilia Harcourt is—even if he does not
recall her face—and with everyone calling her his wife, he decides it must be
true, even though he’d always assumed he’d marry his neighbor back in England.

If
only it were true…
Cecilia risks her entire future by giving
herself—completely—to the man she loves. But when the truth comes out, Edward
may have a few surprises of his own for the new Mrs. Rokesby.

My Review:

This is not my first novel by Julia Quinn and it will definitely not be my last! As usual, her stories are great and one can relate to the characters. The writing is aligned with the period where the action occurs and there are as well moments that will for sure bring a smile.

Cecilia has never met Edward Rokesby, but they have shared some lines in letters she addressed to her brother. They have started a long distance friendship and at some point in their letters, they became attached. But when her brother went missing and Cecilia’s future was in danger, she goes out looking for him. To her surprise, she ends up tending for Edward in a hospital and assuming a pretend role of a wife. When he wakes with no memory of the past few months, she will have to find the perfect moment to reveal the truth to him. But his name open up so many possibilities to find her missing brother and Edward’s heath is still fragile, that finding this moment never seems to be the right one.

A book full of funny moments and dialogues, “The Girl with the Make-Believe Husband” offers us some glimpses inside military camps, the newly discovered territories from the New World and the life from that time. Cecilia is a respected woman, but without a husband she has no means to support herself, especially since her father left everything to the care of a shady cousin. She finds the courage to travel across the ocean, never even imagining ending up next to officer Rokesby. The attraction they feel for each other seems sudden, but they had so many letters exchanged, that the feeling has grown up in time. So for Edward it would seem logical that his best friend insisted on a marriage between him and his sister.

The conflict building up inside Cecilia’s soul was very well captured in words. I could very much relate to her and I could understand the difficulty of her choices. And spending time with an attractive man would make things much more complicated, or maybe pretending to be a wife comes much more easer. All these secrets will come to light in a great ending – my favorite scene from the book!

All in all, I loved this story and if you are a fan of historical romance or romance in general, I am sure you have read at least one book from Julia Quinn and my review will come as a confirmation. If you have not yet enjoyed one of her titles, please do start with this one, as it will for sure be to your liking.

Enjoy J

My Review:

This book approaches a large variety of themes, but only scratches the surface. It is a 3.5 read for me, but I definitely enjoyed my time reading it. Both characters are strong and both know exactly what they want and what they expect from their partner. I would have wanted a more developed story, as the plot has a lot of potential.

Maresa and Cameron lead totally different lives. While she has to sustain her sick mother and brother not only financially, but morally as well, Cameron has had a life with all he could have wanted, except an absentee father. But he does have brothers he can count on, a grandfather who has become his role model and a fortune envied by many. They meet under false pretenses, but as soon as the veil comes off, they start a different kind of relationship.

What I mostly liked about the story was the numerous themes it approaches. But this was also the thing that made me not like it a little bit, because all these themes are so well mixed and it could have become so much more. We have two different kinds of families: Maresa’s, that above all other issues, has to accept a baby, and Cameron’s, that has to accept the family they never knew about. Also, we have a character that has a brain problem, so we have an acceptance issue. We have child abandonment and some other smaller ones. The way all this blends into the romance building between our protagonists is absolutely divine.

This was an easy and quick read. I had my moments of laughter and also moments of confusion, together with the characters. The writing did catch my attention and I was quickly captured by each page.

I hope you give it a try as well and come back with comments J

With one friend set on  pushing the boundaries and the other afraid to rock the boat, one thing’s for  certain—their story would make one heck of a country song.

My Review:

As you’ve probably figured out by now, this book is about two friends trying to deal with their attraction for one another, in different ways: one tries to get the other’s attention, where the other tries not to put their friendship in danger.  The question is how do you cross the “Friend Zone” without destroying it?

I found the story quite enjoyable, especially because it covers with sensitive aspect of becoming more than friends. There may be more things I was not quite comfortable with, but at the end of the book, I felt satisfied enough with giving three stars.

Hannah is a nice character. She’s determined to make Deacon see her as more than his best friend, after a year away from him. Being away from her loved ones made her become more confident and become mature enough to follow her goals. Throughout her childhood, she found comfort in Deacon, him being the only kid her age interested in becoming her friend. Because of her stutter and her cheap clothes, she has always been regarded as an outsider.

With a significant number of people that had abandoned him, Deacon appreciated the little girl’s gesture of talking to him that day and ever since he’s done and nothing but protect her. She’s given him the family he’s never had. Her parents welcomed him and provided support when his drunk mother was not able. He has a great career ahead only because of his best friend. She pushed him towards his dreams, so he wants to fight this insane attraction at all costs, or else it will destroy their friendship, his heart and especially his little boys heart. His son regarded Hannah as the mother she never had the chance to meet.

I like this fight that torments each character and I like more that they were pushing for completely different things. But I was not at all comfortable with all the talk and no action from Hannah’s side. She is portrayed as such a determined person, willing to do a lot to gain Deacon’s heart. But only when pushed by her new friends does she act on her plan. And I also was a little confused at what Deacon’s feelings were. We also find out things about his ex-girlfriend, with whom he appeared to be in love at some point. She is described to be such a mean person and criticized that at some point you get to hate her completely, even though she’s not a character in the book.

I still have mixed feelings about the story, but at least now I can say I enjoyed it. I expect more from the other books in the series.

The
Proposal
meets Two
Weeks Notice
in Ann Marie Walker’s new standalone romantic
comedy, Black Tie Optional, which New York Times bestselling
author Jennifer Probst calls, “a fun, sexy romp that will keep every
reader entertained!”

Everything about Coleman Grant III oozes power and sex. And not the perfunctory
kind either, but the sheet clawing, heart stopping, gasping for air after
you’ve screamed so loud you can’t breathe kind. From his dark wavy hair that
stands in an artfully rumpled mess, to the blue eyes that sear your skin, to
his full, sensual lips – on the surface he’s pure perfection.

Too bad
he’s an asshole. An arrogant, uptight corporate raider hell bent on destroying
the environment one species at a time.

Everything
about Olivia Ramsey screams hippie humanitarian. From her blond hair tied in a
sloppy bun, to her faded jeans with the Bonnaroo patch sewn on the thigh, to
her combat boots still splattered with mud from the previous day’s site visit.
So it makes
perfect sense that they would get married. In Vegas. Stone-cold sober.Cole
needs a wife. Olivia needs to save an endangered species. But what starts as a
marriage of convenience soon turns into a battle of wills and sexual tension.
Love is a game, and Olivia and Cole are ready to win.

Chapter One

Just like
clockwork, Olivia thought. She watched the gas-guzzling SUV roll to a stop
alongside the curb, its hazard lights blinking as if some sort of justification
for bringing a full lane of Chicago’s morning rush hour to a grinding halt.
Every day the sleek black car stopped in exactly the same location so the
almighty Coleman Grant III could get the same extra hot, double shot Americano
from the same big-chain coffee shop, bypassing the smaller, neighborhood
establishments trying to stay afloat as corporate America runs them into the
ground.
A mountain of a man in mirrored
aviator shades jumped out of the front seat to open the rear door, giving
Olivia a clear view of the luxury vehicle’s interior. Two leather captain’s
chairs with fold down keyboards and armrest tablet holders sat facing several
television monitors mounted above what appeared to be a full-service bar.  Forget running a business, it looked as
though Coleman Grant ran NASA from his back seat. Honestly, what could possibly
be so important that it couldn’t keep until he got to the office? The commute
from his Gold Coast penthouse to his Loop headquarters was less than two miles.
Hadn’t the guy ever heard of just chilling out with some tunes?
Olivia approached the car just as
Grant climbed out of the back seat. He paused to button the jacket of his navy
blue Tom Ford and for a moment she forgot he was an arrogant, self-righteous
prick hell bent on destroying the environment one species at a time. For a
moment, she allowed herself to take in the physical perfection standing in
front of her. From his dark wavy hair that stood in an artfully rumpled mess,
to the blue eyes that seared her skin, to his full, sensual lips – everything about
Coleman Grant oozed power and sex. And not the perfunctory kind either, but the
sheet clawing, heart-stopping, gasping-for-air-after-you’ve-screamed-so-loud-you-can’t-breathe
kind. But then his eyes narrowed and his lips curved into a knowing smirk and
Olivia remembered exactly who she was dealing with.
            “Mr. Grant,” she began.
The bodyguard moved to step between
them but Grant waved him off. “Ms. Ramsey, what a surprise,” he said, not at
all surprised since this was the eighty-third day in a row she had approached
him. Not that it mattered. She had no plans to stop these sidewalk sessions
until he either agreed to her demands or filed for a restraining order.
He made his way toward the coffee
shop with Olivia tight on his heels. “You know, most people simply make an
appointment with my assistant.”
“I’ve tried that, Mr. Grant. But for
some reason your schedule is always full.”
“Pity,” he said, his voice void of
all emotion. When he reached the glass doors, he yanked one open. “Please,
after you.”
Bastard. Normally he charged in like
he owned the place, never mind if she or anyone else got a face full of door. How
dare he try to throw her off her game by acting chivalrous. As if the man had a
courteous bone in his body. Olivia stood frozen in place, debating how best to
handle this latest twist in their balance of power. As she did, Cole’s gaze
raked her from head to toe, from her blond hair tied in a sloppy bun, to her
faded jeans with the Bonaroo patch sewn on the thigh, to her combat boots splattered
with mud from the previous day’s site visit.
She hated to admit it, but the
scrutiny of his gaze was unnerving. And it wasn’t just the laser like focus.
There was something about his expression, as if he wasn’t looking at her fully
clothed in a shop brimming with customers, but rather undressing her with his
eyes. She shifted in place, debating if she should call him out for his piggish
behavior or simply stick to the topic at hand.
            “Suit yourself,” he finally said,
stepping through the doors and leaving her alone on the sidewalk.
Not so fast. She took a deep breath
and joined him at the service counter.
“Mr. Grant, as I’m sure you’re aware, the northern long-eared bat was
recently granted protection as a threatened species under the Endangered
Species Act.”
            “Rather difficult to forget given
your daily reminders. Although I must say, Ms. Ramsey, you disappoint me. No
visual aids today?” He turned away from the counter with his extra hot, double
shot Americano to find Olivia standing behind him with an 8 x 10 glossy in her
hand.  “Ah, it seems I spoke too soon.”
“This particular species of bat has
been the most impacted by white-nose syndrome and the resulting decline in
their numbers is what—”
“Those really are the most vile
creatures,” Grant interrupted. “Have you ever considered taking up the cause of
a more appealing animal, say a manatee?”
“There aren’t any manatees in Lake
Michigan.”
            “Precisely.” He smirked. “Perhaps
you could move? I’m sure you could find some poor, unsuspecting Floridians
worthy of your attention.” He raised his left hand and for the first time
Olivia realized he was holding a second cup. He thrust it in her direction and
without thinking she took it, dropping the photograph as she did. “You seem
like the type who would order your latte with a hundred and one specifications,
but hopefully skinny vanilla will do.”
Olivia blinked. He bought her a
coffee? What the actual fuck? Did he really think he could charm his way out of
the hot seat? She had spent her entire adult life and most of her teens
speaking on behalf of those who couldn’t. It was going to take a lot more than
a few random acts of fabricated kindness to get her off his back.
She was about to tell him not only
where he could stick his latte but how in her twenty-eight years on earth she’d
never ordered a “skinny” anything, when he turned toward the door. She bent to
scoop up the photo then hurried after him, fast talking her case all the way to
the curb where his bodyguard stood waiting with the door already open. As
usual, Grant didn’t say a word, much less defend his stance. Instead he simply
flashed a grin that would have made her drop her latte, not to mention her
panties, if she didn’t find him to be lacking in not only morals and ethics but
quite possibly a soul.
He gave her a quick nod before
ducking into the car.  “Until tomorrow,
Ms. Ramsey.”
With that, the door slammed shut and
the SUV pulled into traffic to the sound of protesting horns.
            “Asshole,” Olivia muttered under her
breath. “Gorgeous asshole, but still.” She turned on her heel and started down
the street with her head held high. Coleman Grant III might have been trying to
make a mockery of her attempts to persuade him, but their standoff was far from
over. A slow grin curved her lips as an idea began to take shape. She’d just
pulled her smartphone out to send herself a reminder when it began to vibrate
in her hand.
            “Are you bringing your swimsuit?”
her best friend asked before Olivia had even managed a hello.
            “To the desert? You’re joking,
right?”
            “I wasn’t sure.”
“Cassie, I know you’ve had your head
buried in cookbooks for the past few years but surely you can remember how a
vacation works…lounge chairs, suntan oil, blended drinks with tiny umbrellas
that make you say ridiculously inappropriate things to cabana boys.”
            “I have never said anything
inappropriate to a cabana boy. And that’s sexist by the way.”
            “Cabana person?” Olivia laughed at
her own joke. “I’m playing. But you’ve got to lighten up a bit. We’re headed to
Vegas, Sin City, what happens there stays there and all that.”
“You sound like a tourism ad.”
“All I’m saying is you better be
ready to party Hangover style.”
            Cassie snorted. “Yeah, cause that
worked out so well for them.”
            “I promise I won’t leave you
stranded on a hotel roof.”
“This is a bad idea. I should be
staying here and looking for a job.”
“You’re the sister of the groom. You
can’t very well ditch out on the bachelor/bachelorette festivities. Besides, if
I can break my ‘Harass Coleman Grant’ streak for a few days, then you can
certainly give the stand mixer a rest.”
“How’s that going by the way?”
            Olivia groaned. “New day, same
story. ”
            “Maybe it’s time to—”
“Move on? No way.” While it was true
that working freelance allowed Olivia a certain amount of latitude, she prided
herself on never giving up. There was no way Coleman Grant was going to blemish
her perfect record. “I’ll just have to double my efforts.”
            Cassie laughed. “I’m actually starting
to feel sorry for the guy.”
“Don’t be fooled by the looks. He
might be hotter than Ryan Reynolds and Ian Somerhalder combined, but underneath
that perfect exterior beats the heart of an ogre.”
            “Sounds like someone has wet
panties.”
            “Why Cassandra Miller, is that
smutty talk I hear coming out of your mouth? There may be hope for you yet.”
            “Don’t change the subject. You’ve
got the hots for this guy.”
“Hardly. He’s eye candy all right,
but he’s also a spoiled, self-centered asshole who think it’s his way or the
highway. Not this time though.” Olivia nodded to herself. One way or another he
was going to give in to her demands. Coleman Grant III had finally met his
match. He just didn’t know it yet.
