Such and enjoyable read! It felt comfortable overall and this is the feeling that, I would say, takes over the story. I will get back to this point in a minute – let me tell you what this is all about.
Isla’s won a date with a super hot guy, through her grandmother who, without Isla’s knowledge, bought the guy for her. They go out and have a lovely evening together, trying and succeeding at finding balance around each other. When they decide to take the big step forward (ya know, the one after kissing), she bolts out of his house with a lousy excuse. Some days later, it turns out that the guy is none other than Travis Abbott, one of her 3 bosses. How’s that for a weird situation?
The story is not complicated at all, it does not have the excruciating tension between characters. There is a twist, but that’s more of a self thing. As I was mentioning a few lines above, it feels comfortable. From their first meeting, until they reconnect and give into their emotions, the story felt cozy. The support of the family and friendship also add to that. The part that I loved most was the self-confidence element. Travis has issues and when he is faced with his past, everything comes back to him. The desire to be enough to someone, the desire of being accepted with flaws and having his strengths appreciated was well analyzed in the book.
At some point in the story, however, the action felt dragged somehow and there were some repetitive paragraphs. The relationship Isla has with her grandmother could have been more explored, considering that the charming lady was actually the one who set them up in the first place, but I did like that the friendship between the girls was not forced – it felt natural.
The audiobook is amazing! Lee Samuels & Maxine Mitchell are awesome! They did justice to our characters and the part I liked best was how the awkwardness was gave off in the narration. Lee Samuels did justice to Travis’ insecurities and Maxine Mitchell was amazing portraying the confidence that Isla tried to bestow onto her lover.
There is tension; there is passion, secrecy and the warm feeling of family and friendship. One cannot go wrong when picking this book. Suffice to say I devoured it in one sitting. I just couldn’t stop cheering for our characters to solve their issues and just kiss and make love already!
Cover review: we have the element suggesting the family business, but … I just don’t get the overall pink. Too much pink.
Favorite quote: There were some, but that’s the thing with audiobooks. You get so wrapped up in them, you forget to mark the quote!
