Introduction

Should you decide to read “Reckless Obsession”, go the audiobook route. It is a completely different experience. Both narrators are… mesmerising. You should also be aware that this is a dark romance, heavy (like very very heavy) on the spice and with morally grey characters.

I enjoyed parts of the book. I love a good mafia book, with questionable characters. I love a possessive MMC and an FMC that stands her ground. This book delivers almost on both. Eoghan states his claim on Jillian and tells her exactly that from the beginning. She has a hard time taking him seriously, so there is a constant bickering between them. This, while trying to prosecute one of the most dangerous mafia families. They are forced to work together and I liked seeing how determined she was.

The main part of the story is dedicated to the personal relationship between the two characters. Jillian explores her sexuality in many ways and Eoghan is more than eager to help her in that regard. More to the end, the effects of the secrets the investigation uncovers start catching them up. I was a fan of this part, since it kept me more entertained.

The amount of spicy scenes is too much for me, unfortunately. It may be your cup of tea, but … it was too much “tea”. The non-stop innuendos, even if when the situation did not call for them left me with a bad taste. I would have liked seeing Jillian shine professionally in the end, in one capacity or another. I’m not a feminist, but the character was quite adamant on how important her career was.  

There is also something curious when it comes to the chapter division. I loved the opening. It was brilliant and more so in the audio. After this first chapter, however, we have some which are medium to short length and others which are very short. These chapter breaks took away from the flow of the story.

Regardless, the audio version is fantastic. Aaron Shedlock captured all our MMC’s shades and Stella Hunter managed to be an excellent Jillian and a superb Eoghan. Honestly, this audiobook is an experience. A very spicy one (heavy underline on spice).

Cover Review: I’m not a fan. I like the color combination, as it feels dark and rich. I don’t like the gentleman, with his charming glance. Seems forced. Sorry!

Combining positives and less positives, this ended up somewhere in the middle. I will for sure read more of Deborah Garland, as she has a lot of titles that sound interesting, but “Reckless Obsession” will for sure attract a good amount of readers and positive feedback.
