I was so happy to be accepted as part of the book tour promoting The Oath of Blood and Roses by C. M. Hano. This is another romantasy story, following the chonen one trope, with a protective MMC and all the lovely elements we enjoy in a book in this genre.

Plot Overview

The Oath of Blood and Roses follows Calian, an elite Ashana sworn to serve his prince, and Clover Celestia, the High Princess whose life turned upside down after the murder of her parents. Calian has never considered breaking his oath, until Clover disrupts every part of the disciplined life he has built. Their connection grows as Clover is suddenly thrust into a hidden war tied to magic, blood oaths, and the rebirth of a goddess.

When Clover’s parents are killed, she is forced into a political and magical conflict she never knew existed. Her escape with Calian binds the two in a blood oath, an ancient magical bond that prevents lies or violence between them. As Clover learns to accept her new path, and the revelation that magic has returned to the realm, she must also unravel the mystery behind her parents’ murderer and confront her growing feelings for her protector.

Characters and Themes

Clover Celestia is a complex protagonist, defined by her upbringing and the loss of her parents. She becomes a symbol of survival rather than weakness. Themes of healing, finding and reclaiming one’s identity are central to Clover’s journey.

Calian embodies loyalty and strength. His dedication to Clover and his ability to see her beyond her position and destiny highlight the novel’s exploration of unconditional acceptance. Their dynamic drives much of the narrative, as they try to resist their desire, only to ignite it further.

Major themes include:

  • Healing: Clover’s past defines her fears and choices, but also her strength.
  • Duty vs. Desire: Calian’s oath conflicts with his growing feelings.
  • Identity and Power: The return of magic and the significance of blood oaths emphasize destiny and self‑discovery.

What Worked and What Didn’t

I love the premises and the characters. The world is interesting, something always happens, you will definitely feel the events. The author knows very well how to make the experience almost complete for the readers, and she has created a story that can become even more complex with every book in the series.

I may be developing a passion for lengthier books, but I would have wanted more color around the kingdoms. I wanted to see more of the politics and a little bit more about their history. I feel there were things not addressed completely, although it may happen in book two. I can anyway excited to follow with the series and the rest of the author’s books 😊

Writing Style

Hano’s writing is specific to romantasy, with a lot of emotions, from struggles to love. The plot is engaging, and the characters are well-developed. There are a few twists that will keep you engaged, and those made me overlook some other smaller issues in the book. Her prose leans into atmospheric world‑building, with the sensual tension characteristic of romantic fantasy.

Who Will Enjoy the Book?

This novel is ideal for readers who enjoy:

  • Romantasy with high emotional stakes
  • Character‑driven narratives
  • Fantasy worlds filled with magic, royal intrigue, and prophecy
  • Slow‑burn but intense romantic dynamics

If protective warriors and the chosen‑one trope are your favorite, this book is for you. Between political fantasy and romance, there is much to enjoy here.

Final Thoughts

The Oath of Blood and Roses is an interesting story that combines emotional complexity with a magical plot. There is room for improvement, but overall I loved it, and I am looking forward to the next installment.  The author was also kind enough to answer some of my questions, so come back next week Friday, to discover more about C. M. Hano 😊
