Rowena Connor’s ex was a monster, and she’d do anything to protect her son from him. Including fake her death and sequester her son in another country. But somehow her ex figured it out. Now he’s kidnapped her son and wants her dead—for real this time.
US Marshal Ryan McCabe had to leave Rowena to save her. It gutted him. But now she’s dropped into his life unexpectedly, on the run from the man McCabe has been hunting for years. He still burns for her, but it’s clear she definitely hasn’t gotten over what he did to her. Who can blame her? But her only hope to stay alive is to trust him, dark secrets and all.
My Review
This is a book a really enjoyed and if sometimes I didn’t it was my own fault for not reading the entire series. Although you may read this one as a standalone, I felt a little torn away from the actual story and I had to dig around to see if there is more. I checked the reviews for the previous books and this is how I managed to understand what was really happening.
Rowena and McCabe are reunited by their common enemy and McCabe’s obsession. For a while now he has been hunting Mockerie. Apparently, if I had read the other books, I would have understood what kind of monster this guy was really, but I got a pretty good idea. Her need to protect her son leads her to the man who left her behind years ago. Now they both have to leave this behind and fight – for their son, for themselves.
What we have here are two very strong personalities, both determined to fight, both determined to do what it takes to win. While one has been on the run and hiding, the other has been waiting for a slip to catch the enemy. I liked them a lot, I liked their attraction, their love, their kid that connects them.
All in all, this was a story I devoured, with action that took some unexpected turns and made me wish to read the other books (even though now I am spoiled for the ending, I wouldn’t mind the ride). 4.5 stars and my love for the author and her book! Enjoy 🙂

About Jenna:
Jenna Ryan was born in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada, but spent her childhood in several different areas of the country. She began creating stories before she could read. Growing up, romance alone had a strong appeal, but as it turned out, romantic suspense was the perfect fit. After all, what could be better than adding the darker elements of a mystery to a romantic relationship? And, oh, the fun of those secondary characters. Over the years, she has worked in several different industries, including modeling, interior design and travel, however, writing has always been her passion – even if she didn’t go about it in the usual way. She earned a degree in Creative Writing from the University of Victoria in British Columbia and currently lives in a semi-rural setting fifteen minutes from that city.
