My tormentor.
A notorious criminal with a smoldering smile to mask the devil hidden beneath.
He stalks me from the shadows.
Makes me itch to place him behind bars.
A major risk with the perfect reward.
Can’t be tempted to trust him.
And all I’m seeing is hunger.

Another long overdue review! I know, but this book …. I enjoyed reading it so so much! Now, after several weeks, I still relive the feelings I had, the emotions I felt in all those hours spent with these characters. If you say Eden Summers is a good writer, well my friend, I think you’re wrong. She is not just good, she is brilliant! And I will explain why with.
The plot revolves around an FBI agent – Annisa Fox – following a big mafia family, currently led by Cole Torian. Acting head of his family, Cole has the responsibility to defend and protect his siblings and extended family against all kinds of threats. But when the threat is inside the family and when the case has such an attractive FBI agent in charge, things get more complicated. The good guys and the bad must work together to defeat the greatest evil out there. That’s all I’m going to say.
The action is fantastic! In no moment we forget why everything happens and why our main characters are not able to have a normal relationship. In fact, normality is way out of reach! There is constant action and constant edge of the seat position! There are some absolutely scorching scenes between the two that will feel like the book is burning up in your hands (or tablet, or phone or…whatever device you have).
I’d stared the devil in the eye, and without any subtlety, I kinda told him to go fuck himsel, adding a provoking wink for good measure.
But setting aside the action, what blew my mind was the way the author manages to bring forward our characters’ personalities, their most hidden feelings. The torment Cole feels when faced with his enemy, the conflicted feelings Annisa has, all these are so amazingly crafted! I was living every feeling with them – their pain, their passion, the moments when they were afraid, because even strong minds are afraid. Oh, my God!
Yes, the reviewer in me may point out that some plot scenes were kind of too much. For an FBI agent (and a good one), Annisa is kind of reckless and some of the actions are not that believable. But I will not dwell on them because for me, this book is a masterpiece of introspection.
His movements become hostile. The mask of calm disappears, making way for an expression of pure fury. The lack of emotion I’ve withnessed for long minutes changes with the force of a tsunami.
I cannot finish my review without discussing the ending. It frustrated me on so many levels and believe me when I say that I was speechless! Even my other half was staring at me. It was like: “Are.You. Kidding meeeee?!” and then the shock happened. Suffice to say it was unexpected and so befitting!
In case I was not clear enough, I loved this book! Simple as that! A piece of advice for you guys: do not devour this book, unless you intend to read it again after. This book needs to be savored! The entire “Hunting Her” series is fantastic. I was conflicted when I wrote my review for the other two books and I was mentioning: “The problem I really have now is who do I like? Hunter or Decker? Hmm… I have a feeling I should save myself for Cole Torian” Well, I was right! Find my reviews of “Hunter” and “Decker” here.
Eden can’t resist alpha dominance, dark features and sarcasm in her fictional heroes and loves a strong heroine who knows when to bite her tongue but also serves retribution with a feminine smile on her face.
