Alec Sullivan has always believed he has it all. A billion-dollar private aviation business. A penthouse apartment in New York City. Beautiful women who know better than to expect him ever to fall in love. And great siblings for whom he’d do anything. But when Alec’s business partner passes away and leaves everything to a daughter Alec never knew about, in an instant everything in his life turns upside down – all because of Cordelia.
Cordelia always thought she was perfectly happy with her life. She owns a garden store she loves, lives in a pretty little cottage in the same town as her adoptive parents, and figures there’s plenty of time to meet Mr. Right. But she never counted on becoming the surprise heir to a fortune – or on meeting a man like Alec Sullivan. A shockingly sexy billionaire who makes her heart race and melt all at the same time.
Neither Alec nor Cordelia plans on getting any closer than they have to. Only, how can either of them fight this kind of heat, this depth of desire? And when Cordelia needs Alec’s support, it’s pure instinct for him to be there for her. But when it’s her turn to help him confront his deepest pain, will Alec let her in? Or will he push her away, just as he’s pushed away everyone who’s loved him for the past 30 years….

I couldn’t wait to get to Alec’s story! I know it would be my favorite of the three I’ve listened to so far. It follows the pattern of the other ones in the series, since Alec is the big brother, with more resentment towards his father, I was really curious to see what’s in his mind.
When his business partner and father figure passes away, his world is shaken to the core. But the man has a surprise for him, even in his death. He leaves his half of the company to a daughter nobody knew he had. Alec’s intention is to buy off her part and move on with his life. Little did he expect to find an amazing woman, as strong and as business inclined as him. She has no interest in the fortune she’s just inherited from a man that had no involvement in her upbringing. But they become friends, with benefits from time to time.
How can you break a think, thick wall of ice? You don’t. You crack it and then let that small crack work its magic. This is what happens with Alec. Cordelia surprises him with her honesty and gentleness. He is not a forever guy, but she is a forever woman, so nothing can go beyond friendship because his heart is just not bade for these kinds of feelings. So they friends, with a little extra on top. They are honest with each other and this honesty is what I loved most. She understands him, she knows how to talk to him to get him to open up. The story is more about how Alec’s heart is “undressed”.
We have the same theme as in the other books – the main characters’ relationship with family. Cordelia has been raised by adoptive parents and her life has been beautiful. With her biological father out of the picture, she has never had an interest in knowing her genes. She never expected to understand his decisions. Alec and his father have a more than complicated relationship, which is discussed throughout books 1 and 2 as well.
The narration is great as well. I’ve mentioned this in my other reviews, Eva Kaminsky has the perfect voice for the gentle women in this series. It’s all about the ladies people J
I would have wanted to give 5 stars to this book, but I wanted a little more depth in Cordelia’s feelings when face to face with her father’s legacy and as well I wanted to feel more from Alec’s struggles. The love story moves faster than in the other books as well and most things are solved in the end. But I cannot give less than 4 because this was such an enjoyable lecture – reading and listening wise J So have fun and enjoy!
