Can a human heart withstand the flames of a dragon’s soul?
For centuries, the dragons of Kalleen have ruled the skies. Blessed by the goddess of fire, those born of her power are destined to exist within two worlds while fully belonging to neither.
As the youngest daughter of the dragon queen, Amelia has always been torn between her humanity and winged form. In meeting Stephen, she found a blossoming love that gave her hope of finding balance. But it is a dream destroyed when her sister, and future queen, sets her sights upon the same man.
Forced from her lover’s side, Amelia embraces a self-imposed exile, taking refuge in the northern mountains. In this new life of solitude, she banishes painful memories by retreating to her dragon form, sheltering the wounded girl within. Yet it is an isolation that cannot last, as the new dragon queen’s cruelty bears down upon the kingdom, allowing an ancient enemy to rise.
Drawn from her banishment by the pleas of friends, Amelia must choose. Will she embrace the destructive beast within? Or draw upon the frail humanity that lingers dimly in her soul, in a desperate attempt to help her people and mend a broken heart?

She was influenced by her Scottish heritage to become an independent British history buff and has a small library dedicated to Tudor history and is a lover of Arthurian legends. From contemporary, to fantasy, to the paranormal, she loves to write gritty, real, and raw romance that make you dread to see the pages dwindle.

It’s been a long time since I’ve listened to an audiobook. I missed the feeling on listening to a story while doing something else in the process (sewing or crocheting in my case). Having an audiobook with dragons is a major comeback reason.
“Embracing the Dragon” is a story about betrayal and much more. Amelia learns the hard way that things at court are not what they seem and that her sister’s intentions are not even close to honorable when it comes to her own family. Being forced to escape the new queen’s orders, she finds allies where she least expected. Together with Connor, they will begin a journey of truth seeking and even self-healing. His past hides a lot of painful memories that are somehow tied to Amelia’s dreams.
The writing is something I must speak about. We have changes in timeline that are not at all bothering or annoying. Sometimes when you hear “And what happens next?” many times, it may be annoying. Well, it’s not the case here. Past and present merge to form a clear path toward the future. Also, the character evolution is ell justified by the actions and stories told in between.
The narration was fit for a princess. Kylie Stewart has such a delicate voice. It was a real pleasure listening to her. She did an amazing job with voice acting as well. Differentiating between Amelia and Connor was not a problem, but also when other characters were involved, she did a great job.
K. L. Bone brings us an amazing series which I cannot wait to continue. In “Embracing the Dragon” we have dragons, flames, magic, betrayal and so much more. I loved it and I am so anxious to see what will happen in book 2. Be aware: it ends in a major cliffhanger!
